Commentary By Rob Pollard

Pep on Cardiff win

"We won 5-0 in Cardiff, conceded few chances, so, yeah, very pleased.

"The level today was the level of last season. Were a little bit under par in the first half on Wednesday but we must not forget Champions League opponents are good too. We knew, it’s part of the process. The season is long, there are a lot of games to play and it’s important after one not good result the team came back to where it normally is.

"To score goals you have to be patient. We were patient, we didn’t suffer in the long balls and free-kicks and that’s important."

Pep on Mahrez

"He played good. He’s a guy who’s going to help us a lot. He’s a special talent and in front of the goal he has incredible quality. We are so satisfied with him."

"We know it was difficult to play after the Champions League game but the manager told us to be ready for this game because it's never easy, especially away at Cardiff.

"We did well, we took the game from the beginning with the right intention and I think we deserved the victory.

"I didn't know I'd scored 50 goals in English football and I'm very happy to score my first goal for the team.

"It took a while to arrive but I knew it would come. I will try to help the team as much as I can."

Rain lashing down, long journey, a direct physical opponent - this hasn't been an easy assignment. But we're 4-0 up and the fans are singing Blue Moon. Not bad.

Dangerous moment. Loose ball lands at the feat of Ward inside the City penalty area. He crosses but Ederson dives and claims it brilliantly. Danger averted.

AMAZING from Sterling. Beats three at speed in a tight situation, pulls the ball back for Aguero, who shoots first time. Etheridge makes a fine save.

Sane's cross and Bernardo produces a looping back header that goes over Etheridge and into the net.  Did he mean it? I'm not sure having seen the replay but we'll take it!

First clear chance. Gundogan chips it towards Aguero, but it's headed away. The ball comes back to Gundogan, who takes a touch and shoots from 8 yards out. It goes over. Should have done better.

Laporte with a superb ball that sets Sane free down the left. He crosses, causes all sorts of problems and Peltier nearly scores an OG. Better.

A few simple passes going astray in the last few minutes. Sterling guilty a second ago when he cut and inside off the right. We need to tighten up.

Cardiff happy to soak up pressure and hit City on the counter. What I will say is they've done that a couple of times and have done it well. They get forward at speed and have some players who can hurt us.

Ederson's long goal kick towards Aguero is a great tactic (you can't be offside from a goal kick, of course). Those two are going to use that all season.

Outstanding work from Aguero. Flies past two challenges down the right. His cross for Gundogan causes panic stations in the Cardiff defence but they manage to get it away.

Laporte's ball back to Ederson isn't a good one and it skips up chest height. Naturally, Ederson just controls it and finds a pass. What a player.

The pattern of the game being established very early. City keeping the ball and camped inside the Cardiff half. The home side with men behind the ball making it difficult.

Our away form is class - more of the same today!

City have claimed 23 points from a possible 27 in away fixtures since the defeat at Liverpool in January.

Solid record

Guardiola is unbeaten in 33 league matches as a manager against promoted opposition since his Barcelona side were beaten 2-1 at Real Sociedad in April 2011.

Pep Aguero signing an extension

“I didn’t convince him, he decided himself, so thank you to him for trusting in us.

“Players like him Vincent, David decide and they show every day in training session and show commitment. I appreciate a lot, so thank you and I am so happy he can stay 10 years in the club.”

Pep on Mendy and KDB

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Benjamin Mendy is out of this weekend’s trip to Cardiff with a foot injury.

The French defender hasn’t played in City’s last two matches after damaging a bone in his foot and is yet to fully recover.

Guardiola also gave an update on Kevin De Bruyne, who suffered a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) lesion in his right knee in training last month.;

The boss says the Belgium midfielder is making good progress but will only return to action when he 100 per cent fit.

"Mendy is Injured,” he said. “He has a problem with the bone in his foot.

"I spoke with the doctors [about Kevin] and he is telling me it’s going good and well but I don’t know.

“We will see. The important thing is when he comes back he is fit and can play the rest of the season.”

Warnock on our defeat to Lyon

"It's a blip and might give them a kick up the backside.

"I don't think it helps us at all. They made a few changes and looked a lot stronger when they put the regulars on in the second half.

"When I watch them I think 'thank goodness we only play them twice'."

Pep on the physical test

"[The] Premier League is physical. Not just Cardiff. I realised that when I arrived. Cardiff has a way to play and we have to adapt."
