Pep [on whether he can build Barca-style dynasty]

"No comparing. What we done in Barcelona was unique. New players new club and what is important after last season is to be there. We will see how far we arrive."

"You realise the team Chelsea have, they have champions. After the result two weeks ago, we knew it would be more difficult. Only bad thing is we will miss players in the next weeks.

"I don’t know how far we can arrive with Laporte and Fernandinho injured, but it’s better after winning the game."

"Happy. It went to penalties, so compliment to Chelsea it was incredible performance.

"In penalties, everything can happen. We are happy to win back to back for the first time in our history."

Thought that was it. What a breakaway. Rudiger slipped as Sane burst through, Aguero picked it up, travelled a few yards and shot. Kepa down to make the save.

Brilliant from Sterling, who flies into the area past two challenges and crosses for Aguero. His effort palmed away by Kepa. A mad scramble ensues, Danilo fires it in from the edge of the area but Azpilicueta makes the block!!

Pep in the middle of a team huddle. Very animated, trying to get his message across.

Big effort required. Looks like there are some tired legs out there.

City break and pace and there were two fouls there to deny us. Rudiger booked for a foul on David Silva after the ref played on from a Rudiger foul on De Bruyne.

Free kick on the edge of the area.

Otamendi fires the ball into a group of players, Aguero takes onw touch to control and then fires past Kepa - but he's adjudged to be offside.

Good defending from City.

Hazard, weaving in and out of challenges, goes past Laporte and Otamendi superbly, gets a shot off but David Silva makes a fine block.

Chance. Bernardo lofts the ball to the back post. Aguero chest controls with his first touch and the volleys towards goal - but it goes well over.

First real effort.

Who will make it six?

Chelsea and Manchester City are set to face each other in a League Cup final for the first time - both sides have won the trophy five times with only Liverpool winning it more often (eight times).

Excluding Community Shield matches, Chelsea and Manchester City have only met in the final of a competition on one previous occasion - the 1985-86 Full Members Cup final at Wembley, a 5-4 victory for Chelsea, which remains the highest scoring final in Wembley history.

Pep asked if 6-0 will affect today's game

β€œAll the players have pride and want to avoid defeat. But it’s a different competition. It was a great game for us, but this is a final. Different competition.

"Hopefully we can play a game like a final deserves to be played."

Pep asked if Muric is unlucky not to start

β€œA lot. Like Phil Foden, who played all the minutes in the competition, so it’s tough.

"But the way they play and with what we have to do, Ederson is so important to us.”

David Silva

β€œWe did well in the last final here, so I hope we can win today as well.

β€œIt’s early in the year and if we win, we will gain confidence.”

City Team

Starting Eleven: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero

Subs: Muric, Danilo, Kompany, Gundoga, Sane, Mahrez, Foden

Chelsea team news

Davide Zappacosta and Pedro could feature, but are recovering from illness, while Kep Arrizabalaga (hamstring), Danny Drinkwater (tendom) and Gary Cahill (back) are all doubts.

Marco Van Ginkel (ACL) will not feature.

Chelsea have already lost three times at Wembley this season, losing in the Community Shield against Manchester City and in the Premier League and League Cup semi-final against Spurs.

Brian Horton

This is the first League Cup meeting between Chelsea and Manchester City since the third round in 1993-94, when Brian Horton's City side won 1-0 at Maine Road with a goal from David White.

Pep on Sarri's situation

"In my first year never the club doubted me.

"It was never in the media that I'd be sacked if we lose this game.

"When it was difficult I said we needed time and they supported me. The players knew who was the manager and who would be the manager.

"It was stable, that's the best way to do something for a long time, not just a short period.

"I was surprised that when Antonio Conte won the title and they lost one or two games at the beginning of the season, people start to say he was going to be sacked."

N'Golo Kante

"As a team we have some difficulty at the moment, but we are all together and no-one's special.

"The reaction of the supporters is more general about our last performance. We can understand their disappointment."

Potential milestone

Should one, or more, of Manchester City trio David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Sergio Aguero score, they could become the first players to score in back-to-back League Cup finals since Didier Drogba did so for Chelsea in 2007 and 2008.

Aguero has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions against Chelsea for City, only scoring more often against Newcastle United (15).

Pep on Muric starting

"We will see, I have to think about it. He is an important player to be where we are, he was important at Leicester in the penalties. He has been really good and we trust him."
