Commentary By Rob Pollard

That's all from me this Sunday afternoon and many thanks for your company.

All in all, a fine afternoon's work. Three points, three goals, a clean sheet and a century for the season.

Our focus now switches back to the Carabao Cup and Wednesday's semi-final second leg away at Burton.

We'll see you then as we bid to rubber-stamp out ticket to Wembley.

Leroy on Pep's words of wisdom

"He (Pep) always tries to give us the solution and he did it again. I think everyone could see in the second half it was much better."

Danilo's delight...

"The important thing is the win. The goal is nice for sure to help the team.

"Sometimes we tried things and they didn't happen. The important thing was in the second half we put more intensity and that was important."

Pep on 100 goals

"It’s a lot of goals yeah. We have done so good.

"In Premier League one team has been better but it’s January and there are many games left to play. In January, you don’t win the Premier League."

Pep on title race

"I would rather be in Liverpool’s position.

"All we can do is win our games. Improve, analyse our games and try to improve.

"I cannot answer about liverpool every press conference. Now we have Carabao Cup. We will see."

Pep on HT team talk

"We have to try and find the reason why we didn’t play quicker or better.

"After what these guys have done in 16, 17 months, it can't be lack of intensity or not wanting to run.

"We didn't make passes in a row, we had to move it quicker. We spoke about what we should do in the second half."

"Second half we were better, especially the first 15 minutes.

"Our rhythm was not quick enough [in the first half] but we would take that result."

Game has gone flat now. Huddersfield know they're beaten; City conserving some energy for sterner tests that lie in wait.

Good afternoon's work.

Remember, if we win this we close the gap on Liverpool to four points, and we have a few weeks of playing before them.

Our chance to heap some pressure on them.

Great to be in a position where we can take Fernandinho off.

He's been used a lot this season and is vitally important for us. We need to make sure he is fit and raring to go when it matters.

Huddersfield: Unadventurous and have rarely troubled Ederson or our back four.

City: Slow and ponderous in possession, with plenty of passes misplaced.

BUT: we deserve to lead at half-time and you can bet we'll be better in the second half once Pep has had a few words.

Fernandinho's ball to Gundogan at the back post. He brings it down beautifully and shoots wide.

In fact, it was deflected and goes for a corner.

Fernandinho chips a great ball to Gundogan at the back post. He tries to head it across for Aguero, but he gets it wrong and Lossl collects easily.

Leroy is really stretching the Huddersfield defence here. He's hugging the touchline and always looking to get in behind when one of our midfielders has the ball.

Huddersfield struggling to contain him.

Must-win game

In today's other game, Tottenham travel to Fulham. 4pm KO.

Spurs still very much in the title race and likely to get a positive result there today.

Add that together with Liverpool's dramatic victory yesterday and it's an absolute must-win for City at Huddersfield.

Goal glut

19 goals in our last three games in all competitions - that's one more than Huddersfield have managed in their last 36 matches in all competitions.

Pep (on playing after Liverpool)

"It is what it is. Maybe one day we will play before. The schedule is there, no? The TVs decide.

"I said many times in the last period, we have to play our game. We cannot get involved in what the opponents do.

"Try and win our games, that’s all we can do."

"We have so many games. This one, Burton, Burnley, Newcastle. So everyone is going to play. Bernardo Silva has played a lot of games so everybody has to play.

"It is impossible to sustain this amount of games,. It is not about the past it what’s coming forward. We need everybody."

Wobble averted?

City's three domestic defeats this season have all come in our last seven league games - but we have won our last three matches, and our last five in all competitions.

Milestone beckons

Don't forget: One more goal will see us rack up 100 in all competitions for the season already.

That would be an incredible feat.

2019 feels

The only goal City have conceded in 2019 came against Liverpool. Since then, We've played 296 minutes, scoring 20 goals without reply.

Otamendi back in, presumably to deal with the direct approach Huddersfield will take, and Danilo keeps his place, deservedly in my opinion.

Aguero is back in the starting XI. Jesus has done brilliantly in recent games but the competition for places at City is fierce.

Looks a good side. Roll on 1.30pm.

City team to face Huddersfield

Ederson, Walker, Danilo, Otamendi, Laporte, Gundogan, Fernandinho (c), Sterling, De Bruyne, Sane, Aguero

Subs: Muric, Stones, Delph, D Silva, Bernardo, G Jesus, Foden

More from Pep

“Of course, when you are fresh mentally and in the legs in the latter part of the season it is good, but when you play every three days everyone is in a rhythm.

“Sometimes when you play once every 10 days the rhythm is wrong.

“When you win games and go to the quarter and semi-finals (of cup competitions), it is a huge excitement and focus for everyone.

“So, if we go out it’s because the other team is better, but we are not going to drop any competitions.

“Of course, I am a little bit concerned (about the schedule) but it is what it is. What can we do?

“If we reach the Carabao Cup final we will reschedule our game at Everton, possibly between the Chelsea and Arsenal games or possibly in another week and we will see when the league decides.

“What they decide we will play that day.”

City's 10-1 win when the teams met in the old Second Division in 1987 remains our record league, and a record league defeat for Huddersfield.

"Forget the table, the schedule - focus on Huddersfield. It will be freezing and has always been complicated against them.

"Focus on what we have to do or else that is the first step to losing points."

Huddersfield caretaker head coach Mark Hudson

"It's been an emotional start to the week - there were a few goodbyes but since then there's been a real focus on the training field ahead of Sunday.

"We fully respect what David Wagner has done for Huddersfield Town, and he's done a lot for me too, as both a player and a coach.

"A Mark Hudson side will be full of intent and fight. Togetherness is something I really believe in."

New boss

David Wagner's mutually-agreed exit from Huddersfield means Mark Hudson takes the role on a caretaker basis this afternoon.

New manager bounce?

"When you win games and go to the quarter and semi-finals (of cup competitions), it is a huge excitement and focus for everyone.

"Of course, I am a little bit concerned (about the schedule) but it is what it is. What can we do?"
