Reaction: Pep Guardiola

"We did many good things. It is really good for the future.

"We played against one of the best teams in Germany and we did many good things.

"We spoke in the week about courage, intensity and a desire to play. The players did very well and I am so satisfied with the performance of these guys."

That's your lot...

City fall to defeat in our pre-season opener, thanks to Gotze's first-half penalty, but plenty of positives to take for the young Blues.

Reaction to follow...

City changes

A quartet of City substitutions...

Leroy Sane, Patrick Roberts, Nabil Touaizi and Benjamin Garre replace Riyad Mahrez, Jack Harrison, Lukas Nmecha and Phil Foden.

City think we should have had a penalty... and it would have been, as Nmecha was upended, but for the offside flag!

Yet to see a replay to discover whether it was the correct decision...

So... disappointing of course to be behind but we've shown glimpses of some lovely football.

The youngsters have done well and Harrison in particular has had a lot of the ball - he's been at the heart of the Blues' best attacking moves so far, down the right.

We just need a bit more quality in the attacking third.

Incredible strength from Nmecha to retain possession and muscle his way forward. He's upended eventually and City have a free-kick in a dangeous area..

Chance for Dortmund to double their lead, as Isak rounds Bravo but the angle is against him and his effort is the wrong side of the post.

Superb from Bolton, who threw himself in front of a shot there, as Dortmund countered quickly.

That'll give the young lad confidence. Proper Mancunian steel there from the City fan.

Claudio Bravo is shielded by a backline of Luke Bolton, Eric Garcia, Jason Denayer and Oleks Zinchenko.

Douglas Luiz occupies the defensive midfield role behind Brahim Diaz and Phil Foden, while Riyad Mahrez and Jack Harrison are employed on the wings.

Lukas Nmecha leads the line upfront.

Bright start

City have dominated possession in these early exchanges. The Blues are pressing high and seeking joy out on the wings as much as possible.

All eyes on...

Plenty of debuts in the City XI tonight, including this young man: Eric Garcia.

Signed from Barcelona last summer, the Spaniard enjoyed a stellar campaign with our U18s. He earned the captain's armband and was named as the young Blues' Players' Player of the Season.

City XI and subs

XI: Bravo, Mahrez, Denayer, Zinchenko, Luiz, Harrison, Nmecha, Foden, Eric Garcia, Diaz, Bolton.

SUBS: Hart, Sane, Roberts, Grimshaw, Muric, Touaizi, Pozo, Dele-Bashiru, Garre, Humphreys, Matondo, Wilson, Ogbeta.

A word from the opposition

Dortmund boss Lucien Favre (on facing the Premier League Champions): "This is planned - and that is very good for us!

"We started training just a week ago. That's why we are not ready yet. That's logic. Nevertheless, it is very good to play against such teams."

Manager's notes

Pep also discussed his new recruit Riyad Mahrez, the World Cup, potential transfers and more...

On his new signing, he declared: "Riyad Mahrez has come to help us at the front and give us the quality he has."

Unleash inSane

Pep Guardiola said in his press conference yesterday he hopes Leroy Sane will use his World Cup disappointment as motivation for the new season.

I don't know about you but I find the prospect of a fired up Leroy Sane delightfully frightening!

City are back!

Whether you're keen on pre-season friendlies or not, it's brilliant to have our boys back in action. Of course, we're missing those who participated at the World Cup and these exhibition games are mainly to build fitness and hand senior minutes and experience to younger players, but May seems a lonnnnng time ago now and we've been itching to see the Premier League Champions again!

Countdown to kick-off

Tonight's encounter kicks off at 8:05pm local time (20 July here!) and 2:05am UK time (21 July there!), and we'll have live coverage of the key events.

Greetings from Chicago

Hello, Blues! A very good evening from Soldier Field, Chicago, where your media team are in position for City's International Champions Cup clash against Borussia Dortmund.
