Commentary By Rob Pollard

Pep on Mahrez

“In Anfield, he played so good… that’s why he played today.

“He played with personality. Only the takers can miss a penalty. He scored a great goal, but the assists he created, how aggressive he was, was so good.

“Riyad made a good performance. We knew he was a talented player. He’s a guy who likes to play with the ball. He goes to the byline, can score with left or right.

“He’s a good signing for us.”

This feels like perfect preparation for our CL game on Tuesday. Comfortable, lots of subs made early, and we've now taken foot off the gas a little to preserve energy. Ideal.

He's been on the pitch a matter of minutes but De Bruyne has already produced an eye-of-a-needle throughball. Mahrez on the end of it, shoots, but it's saved.

Very odd goal. Sane goes down (surely a penalty) and the ball rolls free. Burnley players stop playing and leave the ball - Silva gets it and crosses, Bernardo smacks home emphatically. 2-0.

Mahrez very good in that first half. We're not at our optimum but we've been better than Burnley and deserve to lead. Plenty of room for improvement in the second half.

How are we not 2-0 up!? Bernardo with a great cross, Silva heads it and looks certain to score but Hart makes a fine save. Aguero then somehow smashes the rebound over the bar.

Mahrez with an effort that goes into the sidenetting. Move started by Ederson who squeezes (JUST) a ball through a pair of Burnley players to set Bernardo clear. Absolutely brilliant.

Great play from Sane and Silva in the build up. They played a one-two on the edge of the area, Silva crosses and finds Aguero at the back post. He hits it first time into the back of the net. Class.

If we do what we're good at - move the ball quickly and inventively - Burnley won't be able to live with us.

Seems we're warming up a little now.

Here we go

The players are all back in the dressing room. Warm ups over and final preparations happening. Pitch looks glorious. Everything is set.

Andrew Wilkinson – fan who hasn’t missed a home game since 1978 (over 1,000 consecutive matches) - was on the Blue Carpet before today's game.

Kudos to him, that's some record!

Sean Dyche

"We're trying to move the club forward on and off the pitch. All of this speaks for it off the pitch in many ways, the structure and everything. On the pitch with signings and stuff like that and adding to the framework of the inner workings of the club.

"We feel there's a possibility of a role that would fit and that's where it's at at the moment. We're talking about it, myself, the chairman, the board, chief executive, about how that role works at a club like this.

"It won't be a technical director as in one who pulls all the strings. It's more of a conduit so we're all on the same page.".

Burnley have beaten the defending champions in each of their last four PL campaigns, having overcome Manchester United in 2009/10, Man City in 2014/15, Leicester City in 2016/17, and Chelsea in 2017/18. With victories in four out of eight contests, no side have a better win rate against the title-holders

The City players have just come out to warm up. It's actually a really lovely day here in Manchester. Sun is out but with a chill in the air.

Sterling form

Raheem Sterling has been involved in 14 goals in his last 12 PL appearances at the Etihad Stadium, with nine goals and five assists. He has scored in all three of his home league matches this season.

Sean Dyche on Joe Hart's return to the Etihad:

"He's very experienced now Joe, he's played in enough big games of different sorts.

"Obviously it's a different kind of emotion, a club you've got a big history with and a recent history, but I think he'll just want to get on with it and not overthink it.

"I didn't bring him here to prove a point to anyone. I don't want to speak for him but, if he's got any point to prove, I don't see why, other than to himself. And that is to continue to show what a top-class goalie he is."

Pep on KDB

"I don't know if he is able to play 90 minutes but he has trained well in the last two weeks without pain. He is ready to be part of the group."

Burnley team news

Steven Defour (knee) is in contention for his first Premier League start since January but Robbie Brady remains out.

Ben Gibson (groin), Stephen Ward (knee), Nick Pope (shoulder) are all still missing for the Clarets.

Record awaits

Interesting one today. We could set a new record.

If we avoid defeat, we will have put together the longest unbeaten run of Premier League games on Saturdays at 3pm (34).

KDB back?

City have been handed a welcome boost, as Pep Guardiola revealed in Friday's press conference that Kevin De Bruyne is back in contention.

Fabian Delph is also available again and may feature but the game comes too soon for Ilkay Gundogan, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the Champions League triumph over Hoffenheim.

City are back!

It's matchday!

We welcome the return of Premier League action to the Etihad Stadium this afternoon, as City host Burnley in a 3pm kick-off.

As always, we'll have all the behind-the-scenes build-up, plus minute-by-minute match coverage and post-match analysis, as the Champions bid to cement our place atop the league table.
