Pep's press conference...

Pep [on Sterling]: Yeah, he make a fantastic goal and fought a lot.

Especially in second half, he was clever, he moves the way we need to be stable.

The wingers make stability in the team and he did it well.

Pep's press conference...

Pep: The goal we conceded we defended very badly but in general we didn’t concede many chances.

We conceded few set pieces, free kicks.

Our performance was good, especially in second half, where we didn't let them run and create chances.

We have 10 points from 12. We played arsenal away, so it’s a good result and we are delighted for the guys.

Pep's press conference...

Pep: First i want to say a few words.

Today is anniversary from Sheikh Mansour, who is the most important person in the last decade to make a step up to another level and try to win title.

I  want to wish a Happy Anniversary to him and Vincent Kompany as well.

Since the start of last season, only Mohamed Salah (45) and Harry Kane (35) have had a hand in more Premier League goals than Raheem Sterling (31 - 20 goals, 11 assists).

We have won each of their past 10 Premier League home games against Newcastle, our joint-longest run of home wins against a single opponent in the top-flight (also 10 v Wolves between 1900 and 1937).

Aguero put through, tries to round Dubravka - but the 'keeper gets down and slaps it away from him. Good goalkeeping. Real chance to wrap it up.

What a move that was!! How did it stay out?! Ederson with a great quick throw to Bernardo, who plays a first-time outside-of-the-boot pass to Aguero. He crosses to the back post for Fernandinho, whose effort is saved brilliantly by a sprawling Dubravka. Silva on the rebound but again Dubravka saves.

Great goal. Newcastle give the ball away close to their 18-yard box, Mendy picks it up and feeds Sterling. He cuts inside and takes a couple of defenders on before curling a beautiful shot past Dubravka. Class.

Aguero has scored 12 goals in seven home league appearances in 2018. He has 14 goals in 11 Premier League appearances against Newcastle, including eight in the two most recent meetings at the Etihad: five goals in October 2015 and a hat-trick in January.

Newcastle challenge

Rafa Benitez’s side are a more conservative outfit, evidenced in their game at home to Chelsea last weekend and both matches against City last term.

They had just 22 per cent possession when City went to St. James' Park in December, defending in numbers in a bid to frustrate us.

But Guardiola says unlocking defensive sides is part and parcel of Premier League football, a challenge he relishes.

“Some teams play more defensively but that is not a problem,” Guardiola said. “Everybody can do what they believe.

“In the end, we are here to get points.

“If they decide to play in that way, we will do what we have to do.

"That is not a problem. They believe in their styles. It’s in our hands to solve that. That is the trick."

Mahrez praise

Pep on Mahrez: “He's one of the most technical players I've ever seen, the skills and everything.

“It's just of course there's a lot of information - the way we want to play, the way we want to do things, the corrections after the games that we have to do, in all things, defensive and offensive set-pieces."

Club record beckons

We could equal our club record of 10 successive top-flight home wins against a specific opponent, set against Wolves in 1937.

The boss

Guardiola on Newcastle's defensive display against Chelsea: "Rafa Benitez did the same against us last season, so we have to adapt. Obviously the quality of our play will be important.

"After two minutes, I will know what idea our opponents are using, and we have to train hard to adapt to it. Last year, when we dropped points we recovered well and that is why we had a good season."

Purple patch

We are unbeaten in our last 21 top-flight games against Newcastle (W18 D3). It’s our longest ever unbeaten run against a specific top-flight opponent, as well as being Newcastle’s longest such winless run.

Sergio Aguero has scored 14 goals in his 11 Premier League appearances against Newcastle.

Eight of these goals have come in his last two home games against them (5 in October 2015 and 3 in January 2018).

Kun's 14 Premier League goals against Newcastle for City is a record for goals scored against an opponent for a single club.

Let's take a look at some stats ahead of the match...

We are unbeaten in our last 21 top-flight games against Newcastle (W18 D3).
