Commentary By Neil Leigh

23:05

Goodnight

That's all from me folks.

Another successful night at the Etihad and now the attention switches back to the Premier League.

We'll see you again on Saturday when we play host to Everton. Kick-off 12.30pm.

In the meantime thanks for your company and auf wiedersehen

22:31

Pep on Phil Foden

"Phil was outstanding. I never had doubts. The quality he has with the ball. He looks skinny but he is really strong.

"He is a huge talent. England has a diamond.

"Not easy to play in big clubs, to play with David, Kevin, Bernardo,. He is incredible."

22:26

Proud Pep

"Incredible. Today we finished the group stage in best way. Best 16 teams in Europe. We will try to arrive in that period in the best condition with players fit.

"Big compliment for this group because every group is tough and we did it so well."

22:13

Leroy on missed chances

MORE FROM LEROY: "We had enough chances in the second half to make the game quiet, I don't know what happened with the three-on-one, I passed it to Bernardo Silva and he had a tap-in...I wanted an assist!"

22:12

Leroy - It was a lucky strike!

LEROY SANE: "We had some good moments, we made life hard for ourselves but it was a really good game.

"I was thinking of whether to shoot or not from the free-kick, it was quite a distance. It was quite lucky."

22:03

Lyon through

In the night's other game in Group F, Lyon drew 1-1 away at Shakhtar and so seal second place and a spot in the last 16. Shakhtar go into the Europa League

21:55

Leroy at the double

It wasn't City at our fluent, flowing best but we got there in the end. Leroy Sane was excellent all night and the Blues proved they could dig deep when needed.

86'

Not this time...

Leroy senses a hat-trick but the Hoffenheim defence stand firm as he hares in on goal. Under five minutes left plus stopage time.

83'

Scare

Hoffenheim are not out of this and look to attack again but a ball over the Blues defence finds them offside. City need to stay calm and collected

76'

Agony

Wow. Phil Foden meets a cross with the sweetest of volleys but Baumann produces a wonder save to deny the teenager. Deserved a goal that. Special

61'

Get in!!

Leroy finds Raheem who repays the favour, passing back to the German. Sane took two touches and buries the shot to send the Etihad into raptures.
56'

Miss

How did we not score?

City have a 3 on 1, Raheem Sterling races clear, squares it to Leroy Sane he gives it back to Bernardo and the keeper blocks. Should have been a goal. Pep looks frustrated.

54'

Close

Raheem runs at the Hoffenheim defence his block finds Gabriel Jesus and his shot goes out for a corner.

From the set piece Otamendi heads over Sane's floated cross.

HT

Let's step it up...

We've hit the woodwork twice and scored but it still feels like we haven't got out of first gear. Hopefully much more to come from the boys in Blue.

38'

Menace

Beanpole Hoffenheim striker Joelinton is proving a real handful so far and just scooped a volley wide. City still lacking our normal vim and vigour

16'

Flashpoint

It was an uncharacteristic and clumsy challenge by the Frenchman. But it was also indicative of the fast start by the Germans. Work to do, Blues

19:59

Here we go...

The teams are walking out to a great reception - plenty of Hoffenheim fans here too adding to the sense of occasion.

Should be a great night.

19:52

Almost time...

Less than 10 minutes to kick-off now and the atmosphere is building.

Army of photographers lined up either side of the tunnel - it's almost time Blues...

19:41

Dinho's style council

Fernandinho gets a rare breather tonight. But he's looking on at the players warming up from the sidelines and is elegantly turned out in a brown overcoat and smart jeans.

Cool customer on and off the pitch!

19:35

Hat-trick

A profusion of smart Blue City bobble hats already in evidence.

That makes total sense - I can confirm it's definitely hat weather... a tad nippy!

19:26

Action stations...

The Blues are out warming up and the players cutting a quite a dash in our smart orange training tops.

Wouldn't mind one myself if Father Christmas is reading...

19:18

Leroy's all fired up...

Leroy Sane: β€œWe are second. We want to go back to the top in front of Liverpool and this is our target.

β€œIt’s disappointing for us we lost (at Chelsea), but it’s also good to learn about the game.

β€œIt was a big game, and small details mean you get punished. We know what we have to do, we are full of hunger and we want the points to be back at the top of the league.”

19:10

Pep on injuries

β€œSilva not able, Kevin not able, Danilo not able, Sergio isn't ready," he said.

"(Silva will be out for) a few weeks. Last game he was substituted, not too big but he stops for a few weeks.

"Maybe he (Aguero) has a chance for the weekend."

18:56

Early starters...

In this evening's two 5.55pm kick-offs, Real Madrid are trailing 2-0 at home to CSKA Moscow at half-time while  Viktoria Plzen and Roma are goalless.

18:52

Young at heart

There's also a place on the substitutes' bench for Felix Nmecha, who has impressed for our EDS squad this season.

What an experience for the youngster!

18:46

Pep on Hoffenheim

β€œThey were incredible against Donetsk and they lost. It was incredible and fascinating to watch as a spectator.

"My admiration for Hoffenheim has increased. I knew about Julian Nagelsmann and his team but now I realise how tough tomorrow will be.”

18:43

Warm welcome

The City squad are making their way into the Etihad Stadium and are being given a rapturous reception as usual from the fans in City Square

18:38

Sweet 16?

The other match in Group F tonight sees Lyon visit Shakhtar Donetsk with both sides still in with a chance of qualifying.

Lyon are currently second with seven points while Shakhtar are two points behind in third.

Could be a tasty clash in the Ukraine!

18:19

Hoffenheim may be bottom of Group F but Pep spoke of his admiration for the Bundesliga side yesterday.

And there is no shortage of motivation as a win for our visitors could propel them into the Europa League.

Just one extra reason why the Blues can't afford to relax tonight.

18:15

Squad goals

A punishing schedule of games has taken its toll with Pep Guardiola revealing at his pre-match press conference he only had 15 fit players to select from.

It should make for a fascinating team selection.

But such is the quality within the City ranks, we can be confident that whoever is selected will more than deliver.

18:13

Regal Raheem

Raheem Sterling has been in sensation form for the Blues all season.

And his impact has seen him land the November Premier League Player of the Month award.

Richly deserved, Raz!

18:06

Chance to respond

Tonight's encounter also offers the Blues the perfect platform to bounce back after last Saturday's 2-0 Premier League reverse at Chelsea.

It was a rare setback in a season that has already delivered many memorable moments for us.

Hopefully, there will be a few more in store this evening...

18:04

Here we go....

A very good evening from a chilly Etihad Stadium.

There may be plenty going on elsewhere this evening but this is the only place you need to be as City round off our Champions League Group F schedule at home to Hoffenheim.

Of course, we are already through to the last 16 but a point tonight will guarantee top spot ahead of Monday's draw.

Everyone excited?

14:08

Our Under-19s face Hoffenheim this afternoon in the Uefa Youth League... Here is the line-up!

12:12

Our opponents...

Hoffenheim are on three points – all from draws – two behind third-placed Shakhtar. Out of contention for a top-two finish, they must win and hope Shakhtar lose in order to earn a UEFA Europa League place.

10:03

Pep's thoughts

β€œWe have 15 players available, so I can’t do it (rotate the squad) too much,” Pep said. β€œWe have 15 players tomorrow and it’s a really tough game.

β€œWe are in the next stage which is important, but we have to try and win every game - to finish first.

β€œThey (Hoffenheim) were incredible against Shakhtar Donetsk and they lost. It was incredible and fascinating to watch as a spectator. My admiration for Hoffenheim has increased.

β€œI knew about Julian Nagelsmann and his team but now I realise how tough tomorrow will be.”

10:01

A word from Leroy Sane

Sane said City would heed the lessons from the recent Chelsea game and he believes last weekend's result will give the side even more incentive to further improve between now and the end of the season

β€œYes, of course. Everyone is really motivated, and we are not first anymore,” said Sane.

β€œWe are second. We want to go back to the top in front of Liverpool and this is our target.

β€œIt’s disappointing for us we lost, but it’s also good to learn about the game.

β€œIt was a big game, and small details mean you get punished. We know what we have to do, we are full of hunger and we want the points to be back at the top of the league.”
