Commentary By Caroline Oatway

Farewell from Hong Kong 👋

That's all from me, folks!

As always, it's been a pleasure to bring you coverage of today's game.

See you again in Japan, where our preseason preparations will continue.

A series of training sessions are planned ahead of Saturday’s game against fellow City Football Group side Yokohama F. Marinos, the final match of our Asia Tour.

It’s then back to the CFA where Guardiola and his backroom staff will step up preparations for the Community Shield game against Liverpool at Wembley.

Come on, City!

Pep (on Rodri and Angelino) 💬

"(They are adapting) quick.

"Both have the ability to play different sides.

"Angelino will improve, Rodrigo already has the experience. He is so smart. He pays a lot of attention to what we try to do.

"We don't have any doubts about those players. They will adapt to the way we play."

Pep (on preparation) 💬

"In situations I cannot control, I adapt.

"We knew it was here. We have done the training sessions as much as possible.

"We were delayed and that’s a pity but we trained in Manchester. It is what it is.

"We have great athletes. They never complain. When you lose, you congratulate your opponents.

"It was nice to be here, we did incredibly well. It is what it is.

"I would prefer another way but it is what it is. The players have big smiles, a little bit tired."

Pep (on Leroy Sane) 💬

"He did a good game, especially in the second half.

"He is a guy who we appreciate, I like him a lot.

"I think he can be better. Two times, three times I said: we want him to stay.

"That’s why he has an offer to extend his contract. It’s not in our hands.

"The agreement is good and if he wants to leave, I'll be sad. Hopefully, he stays."

Pep Guardiola 💬

"It was a nice test. We played well - really well in some moments.

"The starting XI and then the guys who came on (played well).

"Kitchee were aggressive, which is good, but we provoked them to defend deep. It was nice.

"It was tough conditions but we spoke about that. We tried to suffer a little bit before the Community Shield.

"There were no injuries - that is the most important thing. Tomorrow, we recover and go to Tokyo."

Phil Foden 💬

"It was really tough (in the conditions). I've not been here long but to get a few minutes was nice.

"The lads did well in the heat.

"I have to keep training hard but I'll be back (to full fitness) shortly."

(On his young teammates' contributions): "They're all really talented lads and they've all really pushed on.

"I'm happy to see them score."

Presentation time 🏆

Great atmosphere inside the stadium, as the two teams head down for the presentation of the Jockey Club Kitchee Centre Cup.

It's all over in Hong Kong, as City run out 6-1 victors over Kitchee.

Clinical from the Premier League Champions, although - perfectionists that we are - we'll be disappointed with the goal we conceded.

A very challenging test in sweltering conditions but surely beneficial, as we continue our preparations for the new season.

Started off with a very strong XI and gradually introduced the youngsters - all who impressed again with Touaizi and Pozo on the scoresheet, after Silva, Sane (2) and Sterling had opened up a 4-0 lead.

Overall, a very pleasing evening's work.

City's five-goal advantage is restored, as Pozo reacts quickest after Guo denies Bernabe.

The youngster smashes home the rebound from close range.

Lovely goal for the youngster - a moment he'll never forget.

Touaizi has all the space in the world to drive forward before curling a controlled effort in off the post.

Time to defend

Kitchee enjoy a spell of pressure, whipping in some dangerous crosses into the box.

Rodri with an important challenge but we're a bit sloppy in clearing away.

Eventually, the ball rolls out for a goalkick.

Seems obvious to say at 4-0 but there has been some excellent finishing in this game.

'Keeper has had no chance, certainly with our last two.

Real composure in front of goal.

De Bruyne is denied by a superb low stop but the ball falls kindly for Sane, who takes a touch before smashing it into the top corner.

Smart stop

Sane with the chance to add a fourth but his effort is deflected and pushed wide.

The resulting corner is headed over by Laporte.

Back out

The teams head back out onto the pitch.

The heat is so intense. The players are wiping sweat off their brows and the half hasn't even started yet!

The referee brings the half to a close in Hong Kong.

City lead 3-0, thanks to goals from Silva, Sane and Sterling. SSS!

A very comfortable opening 45, despite testing conditions.

In truth, the scoreline could - and possibly should - be more flattering.

Expect plenty of changes in the second half, but a pleasing first 45 overall.

City press Kitchee in their own penalty area, winning back possession.

Gundogan clips to Silva, who in turn slides into Sterling's path and the forward opens his body up to curl superbly into the top corner.

It's two!

Sane with a sweetly-struck effort into the near post!

Sterling with the assist, nipping in to intercept a loose ball in the final third.

Drinks break! 💦

Play stops as the teams take on some much-needed water.

Needless to say, it's hot out there. Sweat is pouring!

Hotter than the English heatwave, I assure you.

Close! 😫

Bernardo again with a chance - he's hungry for a goal!

The 'keeper is beaten but a last-ditch defensive clearance prevents the second.

More like it

The intensity levels in this friendly have definitely increased. City are pressing high and fast, looking to find gaps in the defence to exploit.

Some lovely through-balls have been played through; some composed passing in the build-up.

Comfortable so far.

Special moment

Touching moment here as Kim D J is replaced by N H Li to a standing ovation and hugs all round the pitch in his final appearance for the Club.

He receives flowers on the sideline and a shirt from Pep Guardiola, as his contributions for Kitchee are recognised.

Sterling with the inch-perfect pass into Silva's path and El Mago does the rest, clipping over the 'keeper delightfully.

Penalty shout waved away!

Sterling latches onto a lovely ball through and beats the 'keeper but the ball strays behind.

Referee waves away protests of contact.

Positive start

City have dominated the opening exchanges, passing the ball around nicely.

We're sporting our Hacienda away kit; Kitchee are in their royal blue and white.

Ready and waiting 🙌

It's another humid day. Another test of challenging conditions.

The teams are in the tunnel, awaiting the signal to enter the pitch.

Raheem Sterling 💬

“The biggest difference is that every season, the competition gets tougher, the level gets raised and that’s one of the best things here – that it’s always a high tempo.

“You’re always learning and competing on all fronts with other players for your position.

“The manager sets a high standard and it’s down to us as players to match that and try and put out our best.

“It’s an important time for us – we have to get ready and get fit for the new season.

“That’s the most important thing – to try to get my fitness up and hopefully, I’ll score some goals.”

Full strength 💪

Club Journalist Rob Pollard: "Pep Guardiola has selected a strong team for the game against Kitchee at the Hong Kong Stadium this afternoon.

"Having named a mix of youth and senior players for our previous two tour matches, it’s a full-strength lineup this time, with Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all starting.

"New signing Rodri drops to the bench having started both games in China, with Ilkay Gundogan set to operate at the base of midfield.

"Phil Foden, who joined the squad in Hong Kong on Monday after his involvement with England Under-21s this summer, is named among the substitutes."

Pep Guardiola 💬

“We know how important Kitchee is here in Hong Kong. They are an important team.

“I’m pretty sure it will be a good test for us but the result is not the most important thing. What’s important is the dynamic and to have what we need for the start of the season, especially going into the Community Shield against Liverpool.

“We have a big squad of 25 players. Everybody cannot play but most of them will. The young players tomorrow are going to play.

“Of course, we have young players with high quality and they are there but at the end, I don’t decide which ones will be part of the first team – they decide with their performance on the pitch.

“They are observing, they want to follow us. They have the opportunity. We have interesting players and it’s so nice to work with them because they increase the quality of the training session and put pressure on the older guys.

“If they slip, the younger players are there!”
