Signing off ๐Ÿ‘‹

That's all from me, folks.

I'm off to demolish the rest of my advent calendar to ease the pain.

See you again on Tuesday night for the Premier League trip to Burnley.

Until then, we'll have all the post-match reaction on mancity.com, plus highlights from today's game from 5:15pm - worth seeing, just for Kevin De Bruyne's piledriver.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

15:15

Guardiola ๐Ÿ’ฌ

"We have to accept it, work on strengths and learn from it.

"Itโ€™s tough but we have just two days to recover.

"In good moments, be calm. In bad moments, live these kind of moments."

15:13

Pep Guardiola ๐Ÿ’ฌ

"It's what we've lived the last four years.

"We found a way and today, we found it again but unfortunately, at the end, we conceded a goal

"We could not score all the chances we had; they scored the two chances they had.

"Sometimes it happens."

15:02

Stones ๐Ÿ’ฌ

"The chase is still on - we'll still fight until the last day.

"That's what we'll do. The spirit has to be there.

"We played some unbelievable football.

"It's those mistakes and things as a team that cost us the three points."

14:48

John Stones ๐Ÿ’ฌ

"It's a big disappointment.

"Everything happened so quickly in the last ten minutes - from elation to deflation.

"It's a difficult one to take.

"They set out their gameplan early - five at the back with 11 men behind.

"We kept pushing, trying to break them down.

"We got our break in the first half but we conceded two sloppy goals.

"In the individual actions and team actions in the late stages, that's what's cost us the three points.

"We're really disappointed. We're going to have to reflect and change it round very quickly."

14:23

Tough one to take ๐Ÿ˜‘

Hurts, that one.

So, so close to snatching a precious three points with an absolute wondergoal, and having been denied again and again...

Feel for Kev - that goal deserved to win any game.

FT

FULL-TIME โฑ

Absolutely devastating.

It ends 2-2 at St James' Park, as Newcastle fight back twice to cancel out goals from Sterling and De Bruyne.

Open
90'+3'

What a chance! ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Sterling has the opportunity to snatch the win, picked out by De Bruyne at the backpost - but his volley is so tame!

89'

Heatbreaking ๐Ÿ˜”

Absolutely gutted.

How have we thrown this away again?!

A debatable free-kick awarded, played back to Shelvey... and we're all square again.

Open
87'

I don't believe it! 2-2. ๐Ÿ’”

Newcastle level. Shelvey with a wonderstrike of his own, drilling into the far corner first-time from distance.

82'

Okay, so...

Mendy's cross was headed out to the edge of the area.

De Bruyne took it down superbly before arrowing a sensational volley in off the crossbar.

I CAN'T GET OVER IT.

Open
79'

Not his day? ๐Ÿ˜”

De Bruyne with another effort from the edge but it's uncharacteristically weak and rolls harmlessly wide.

Meanwhile, Atsu replaces Saint-Maximin, who went down dramatically, wanting a penalty when Ederson claimed a long ball.

Open
72'

It won't go in! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

What a chance for Bernardo to make an instant impact! Somehow, he drags his shot well wide of the target - completely unmarked in the centre!

Just prior, Foden mistimed a header which surely would have found the net - had he made the right connection!

Open
68'

Changes for both sides ๐Ÿ”„

Bernardo and Foden are introduced in place of Mahez and David Silva.

Gayle replaces Joelinton for Newcastle.

67'

What a chance! ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Dubravka with a double save to prevent City from retaking the lead!

Gabriel Jesus fired straight at the Newcastle shot-stopper before De Bruyne's rebound suffered the same fate.

Should have scored!

67'

ARGH! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Mahrez plays De Bruyne in down the right and he plays the ball across - but Dubravka sticks out a leg to block before Gabriel Jesus can convert!

65'

Frustrating ๐Ÿ˜–

It's just not happening for us at the moment.

On a few occasions now, we've got in and around the six-yard box but have been unable to get the shot away - with the ball trickling agonisingly through to Dubravka.

Need a piece of individual brilliance....

61'

Star man ๐ŸŒŸ

Have to say, David Silva has been superb today - our best player by some distance.

As always, at the heart of our best attacking moves - even aside from his glorious assist.

Magical.

Open
56'

Ohhh! ๐Ÿ˜ซ

Brilliant from Silva, who clips the ball to the backpost.

Gabriel Jesus attacks it but he can't divert the ball on target and into the empty net!

48'

Encouraging ๐Ÿ‘

City threatening with much more purpose already this half.

More direct; pressing quicker... Invigorated from the teamtalk?

HT

Ready to go ๐Ÿ’ช

City the first back out onto the pitch at St James' Park with Pep Guardiola delivering his final instructions.

No changes for either side.

HT

Analysis ๐Ÿค”

So, we head in level at the break, having dominated much of the possession without creating many clear-cut chances.

Disappointing to have surrendered the lead once we'd eventually managed to breach the Newcastle defence - particularly so quickly.

We haven't really looked threatening - sloppy in possession and lacking the patience to pick the right pass at the right time.

De Bruyne and Mahrez not having their usual influence on the game either so far.

What did you make of it?

45'+2'

Argh! ๐Ÿ˜‘

Sterling lays off for De Bruyne on the edge of the area but his first-time effort takes a deflection and falls into Dubravka's grateful arms.

44'

Brief stoppage โฑ

Play is stopped as Willems goes to ground with injury.

Timing probably good for City - the game was just beginning to become a little stretched.

40'

THIS โฌ‡

37'

Regaining control โšฝ

City dominating possession once more but we're struggling to break down the Newcastle defence.

Every cross is cleared, every through-ball rushed...

Calm it down, lads!

Open
32'

Palm-stinger! ๐Ÿงค

Good effort from Sterling, who cuts inside before curling goalward.

It's straight at Dubravka, who gathers at the second attempt.

22'

What a finish! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Get in there!

Two one-twos(!) between David Silva and Sterling - and the forward applies the perfect curling finish into the far corner.

A little bit of luck in the build-up as Newcastle failed to clear properly... but the backheel from Silva to set Sterling up was gorgeous.

17'

Much better! ๐Ÿ‘

Lovely move sees De Bruyne release Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian spots the run of Mahrez and flicks a delightful backheel into his path - but the ball is cleared just as the Algerian looks to pull the trigger!

14'

Wayward โžก

De Bruyne whips in a corner, which reaches Stones, but he doesn't make the right connection and the ball bounces harmlessly wide.

8'

Take your time โฑ

City a little sloppy in possession in recent minutes, trying to force the play; rushing our passes.

Need to settle down and gain control.

Open
7'

First shot on target ๐Ÿงค

Ederson is called into action for the first time, as Saint-Maximin drives forward before trying his luck from distance.

The shot was tame though - an easy one for our Brazilian shot-stopper.

3'

Promising ๐Ÿ‘Œ

City well on top in the opening exchanges, without really testing the Newcastle defence.

The Champions are pressing high, forcing the home side into mistakes.

Comfortable at the moment.

0'

Bright start ๐Ÿ‘

City start proceedings at St James' Park, sporting our traditional blue and white.

Newcastle of course in their black and white stripes.

The visitors look to mount an attack with our first venture forward but Mahrez had just strayed offside as he looked to head the ball back into Gabriel Jesus' path.

12:27

Here we go ๐Ÿ™Œ

Out come the two teams to an almighty cheer from all corners of the ground.

Big game today for both sides. Come on, City!

11:56

A cause for caution โš

Newcastle are looking to secure back-to-back Premier League victories over City for the first time since November 2003, having won this fixture 2-1 back in January. (The less said about that game, the better!)

The Magpies have only conceded four goals at St Jamesโ€™ Park this season. Only Leicester City have shipped fewer at home, with three.

11:35

Club Journalist David Clayton ๐Ÿ“

"City make five changes for todayโ€™s trip to Newcastle United.

"Kyle Walker, John Stones, Benjamin Mendy, David Silva and Riyad Mahrez all return, while Nicolas Otamendi, Angelino, Joao Cancelo, Rodri and Bernardo all make way.

"The Champions have speed and power down the flanks in the shape of Walker and Mendy, with Fernandinho and Stones the preferred central defensive partnership.

"Gundogan assumes the anchor role behind Silva and De Bruyne, while there is further threat from the wings in the shape of Raheem Sterling and Mahrez.

"Gabriel Jesus will lead the line."

11:19

Once a Blue, always a Blue ๐Ÿ’™

One man who scored a very precious goal for City against Newcastle came to visit the City Football Academy for a sit-down interview with CityTV.

Paulo Wanchope spent four seasons at the Club, scoring 27 goals across 70 appearances - one of those a crucial header to secure Premier League survival for Kevin Keegan's side against the Magpies in May 2004.

The Costa Rican discussed his time in English football, his love of Maine Road and how he wishes he could have played more games in City blue.

"When I heard City had an interest, I didn't have a doubt I wanted to come over here because I knew they were going to make a great squad," he said.

"At Maine Road, the atmosphere there was great. When we moved into the new stadium, we were thinking will it be the same or not. It was exactly the same.

"That's the magic of the people."

11:04

Match 22? ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†

City have scored in our last 21 Premier League matches against Newcastle, winning 18 of them. Only against Fulham have we had a longer scoring streak in the competition, with 22 matches.

10:44

Pep Guardiola on Newcastle ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œObviously, we won 0-1 two seasons ago and last season we lost. Itโ€™s a tough test.

"We try and do what we can do.

โ€œWe forgot to play [in this fixture last season]. We scored a goal and forgot to attack.

"We learned from that, obviously, but we had a bad, bad day. Everybody understood that and we make a step forward.โ€

10:43

Early team news ๐Ÿ“‹

Pep Guardiola confirmed in Friday's press conference he has no fresh injury concerns for today's game.

Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte remain long-term absentees, and Sergio Aguero and Oleksandr Zinchenko are also sidelined.

However, everyone else is fit and ready to play.

10:35

Greetings from St James' Park ๐Ÿ‘‹

Your media team are in position! Here we are, savouring one of the most iconic Premier League grounds - and one of my favourites.

(Admittedly, that's easy to say when you're not climbing the 14 flights of stairs to the away end!)

It's a beautiful - albeit very cold - day up north. Hats, gloves, snoods, multiple layers of socks, etc. required.

10:33

More from Rodri ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œWinning the Premier League would be amazing and winning the Champions League would be amazing, as would the Carabao and FA Cup.

โ€œWe are going to fight until the end and for me individually, it is a dream fighting for all these trophies so I will give all my best because our fans deserve it.โ€

10:28

Rodri ๐Ÿ’ฌ

โ€œFootball is growing and that means more matches.

โ€œMaybe Christmas is about being with the family, but it is okay.

โ€œWe are footballers, we enjoy playing football, so we are going to work hard to win all the games because it is one of the most important parts of the season.

โ€œThe fans enjoy the festive period, which is the good thing because they pay tickets to come and watch us, so it is good for us!โ€

10:25

GOALS โšฝ

We are the division's top scorers this season with 37 goals and have only failed to score in one of our past 35 league fixtures.
